Turkish Society of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine
	About Society The Turkish Society of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine, founded in 2005, is a national scientific society which emphasizes a multidisciplinary perspective on intensive care medicine, and aims advancement of intensive care, both as a scientific discipline and an important area of health care. For this aim, besides organizing national and local educational meetings and congresses, the society participates in development of national standards, and cooperates with governmental agencies and related societies in development of national policies. The Turkish Society of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine is one of the largest national societies of intensive care in Turkey, and members include intensivists from a wide range of specialties, like internal medicine, general surgery, pulmonary medicine, pediatrics, anesthesiology, neurosurgery, neurology and cardio-thoracic surgery. Additionally, other specialties like infectious diseases, physical therapy and rehabilitation, radiology, and pharmacy which are involved in intensive care, are also represented within the member profile. The Society gives special importance to advancement of intensive care nursing, has many members from this area, and closely cooperates with Turkish Society of Intensive Care Nursing. In that regard, the Turkish Society of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine, has a special importance as a society that strongly emphasizes the multidisciplinary aspects of intensive care. The Society is governed by the Executive Committee, which also includes members from different specialties. The Society is currently preparing to organize the 7th National Congress to be held in 29 September - 2 October 2010. In addition to the National Congresses, the Society organizes local meetings and courses in different cities of Turkey. Turkish Journal of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine is the official publication of the Society. The Journal is peer-reviewed, and aims publication of high quality research within the field.
